Antibiotic resistance genes in swine manure slurry as affected by pit additives and facility disinfectants

چکیده

Manure storage facilities are critical control points to reduce antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in swine manure slurry before the is land applied. However, little known about how exogenous chemicals entering may affect fate of ARGs. The objective this study was analyze impact six commonly used pit additives and four facility disinfectants on concentration ARGs slurry. Bench scale reactors, each containing approximately 50 L liquid manure, were dosed with or sampled for 40 days. Seven along intI1 gene 16S rRNA monitored. Out tested, Sludge Away significantly reduced time-averaged absolute abundance erm(C), erm(F), tet(Q), as compared no additive control. Tek-Trol erm(B), intI1, tet(X) than did no-disinfectant According Spearman's rank correlation, three showed a strong perfectly positive correlation two erm(B) tet(O) moderate both disinfectant tests. Overall, more effective controlling additives.

Effects of Copper Addition on Copper Resistance, Antibiotic Resistance Genes, and intl1 during Swine Manure Composting

Copper is one of the most abundant heavy metals present in swine manure. In this study, a laboratory-scale aerobic composting system was amended with Cu at three levels (0, 200, and 2000 mg kg-1, i.e., control, Cu200, and Cu2000 treatments, respectively) to determine its effect on the fate of copper resistance genes [copper resistance genes (CRGs): pcoA, cusA, copA, and tcrB], antibiotic resist...

Fate and transport of antimicrobials and antimicrobial resistance genes in soil and runoff following land application of swine manure slurry.

Due to the use of antimicrobials in livestock production, residual antimicrobials and antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) could enter the environment following the land application of animal wastes and could further contaminate surface and groundwater. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of various manure land application methods on the fate and transport of antimicrobials...

Housefly Larva Vermicomposting Efficiently Attenuates Antibiotic Resistance Genes in Swine Manure, with Concomitant Bacterial Population Changes.

Manure from swine treated with antimicrobials as feed additives is a major source for the expansion of the antibiotic resistance gene (ARG) reservoir in the environment. Vermicomposting via housefly larvae (Musca domestica) can be efficiently used to treat manure and regenerate biofertilizer, but few studies have investigated its effect on ARG attenuation. Here, we tracked the abundances of 9 A...

Diverse Antibiotic Resistance Genes in Dairy Cow Manure

Application of manure from antibiotic-treated animals to crops facilitates the dissemination of antibiotic resistance determinants into the environment. However, our knowledge of the identity, diversity, and patterns of distribution of these antibiotic resistance determinants remains limited. We used a new combination of methods to examine the resistome of dairy cow manure, a common soil amendm...

Diverse and abundant antibiotic resistance genes in Chinese swine farms.

Antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) are emerging contaminants posing a potential worldwide human health risk. Intensive animal husbandry is believed to be a major contributor to the increased environmental burden of ARGs. Despite the volume of antibiotics used in China, little information is available regarding the corresponding ARGs associated with animal farms. We assessed type and concentrati...
